The National Exhibition of Art is the exhibition from national art competition that bears the longest history in Thailand. Silpakorn University, under the initiation of Professor Silpa Bhirasri (Corrado Feroci), has organised the first National Exhibition of Art in 1949 to provide a space for modern art creativity in Thailand and encourage artistic expression.
His Majesty the King fistly presented at the opening ceremony of the 13th National Exhibition of Art in 1962 and has granted royal permission to exhibit His Majesty’s paintings since the 14th National Exhibition of Art. Until present, Silpakorn University has been organized this art competition and exhibition with collaboration from 7 provincial institutes in different parts of the country.
This year, the National Exhibition of Art has come to the 60th, in which it still boasts its glory and significance to contemporary art scene of Thailand. There are 12 award-winning entries selected in 4 categories; painting, sculpture, print, and mixed media, 13 special awards by Krungthai Bank PCL, and 82 selected entries for the exhibition. After the show in Bangkok, this exhibition will also travel to the provincial institutes.
The National Exhbition of Art has been serving Thai art creativity since the early days of Thai modern art, and is a significant national-level stage to the development of Thai contemporary art.
